The
“Union for the Co-ordination of
Electricity Transmission” (UCTE)
is the association of transmission system
operators in continental Europe that provides
a reliable market base to all market participants.
It stands for an efficient and secure
operation of the interconnected electrical
“power highways” and gives
signals to the market when system adequacy
declines. Over more than fifty years,
UCTE has been issuing all the technical
rules and recommendations indispensable
for the co-ordination of the international
operation of high voltage grids that are
all working now at one “heart beat”:
the 50 Hz UCTE frequency. UCTE is also
the responsible body to assess the technical
feasibility of the development of the
system in order to meet all new market
requirements, but without accepting losses
in terms of reliability for the existing
system. The UCTE network provides today
a safe electricity supply to some 450
million people in one of the biggest electrical
synchronous interconnections worldwide
and thus promotes the development of competitive
markets.
The UCTE members are the TSO companies
in Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, Greece,
Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia, Bosnia-Herzegovina,
the FYROM, Luxembourg, The Netherlands,
Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Poland,
the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic,
Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania. The system
operator of Denmark (Jutland) is also
associated member of the UCTE.
