STATOIL - Den norske stats oljeselskap a.s - is a public owned company. Its object is to carry out exploration, production, transport, refining and marketing of petroleum and petroleum derived products. Also renewables as bio-mass, hydro electricity and bio-fuels are marketed. It has undertaken a gradual expansion of its international upstream operations in recent years, and is presently active in 23 countries. The company is the worlds largest net seller of crude oil, and a substantial supplier of natural gas in Europe.

Statoil ranks as the largest retailer of petrol and other products in Scandinavia. Statoil is responsible for managing the state's direct financial interest (SDFI) in partnerships engaged in exploration and production of oil and gas on the Norwegian continental shelf. STATOIL RESEARCH CENTRE has the primary role of research and development in Statoil. Its goal is to produce quality research results, which contribute to the group's business goals of profitability, safety and environmental protection.
