Energy plc is the United Kingdom’s
largest generator, producing one fifth
of the Country’s electricity, employing
approximately 5200 staff.
The company was privatized in 1996 and
is listed on the London and New York Stock
Exchanges.
British Energy’s core business is
nuclear generation. The Company owns and
operates 8 nuclear power stations in the
UK with a combined capacity of approximately
9600 MW and a 2000 MW flexible coal fired
plant.
In 1997 British Energy expanded internationally
by forming a US Joint Venture, AmerGen,
with PECO Energy of Philadelphia, now
part of Exelon Corporation. To date AmerGen
has purchased 3 nuclear power stations
in the US.
